i2 Tech Reinvests in Indian Supply Chain

The US-based supply chain management solutions provider, i2 Technologies, has ambitious plans for India, specifically for its Indian subsidiary, Think Systems. It plans to invest $8 million in the company.

According to R. Swaminathan, managing director, Think Systems, the global parent has a three-tiered investment and growth plan for India this year. First, it plans to expand operations in Bangalore and Mumbai where it already has product development centres. Second, it intends to acquire additional facilities in these cities. And finally, it plans to make heavy investment in high-end servers for a benchmarking laboratory it hopes to set up.

Meanwhile, Think Systems is waiting for the approval of the Registrar of Companies for a change of name.

Widening the use of planning software to more parts of the business "is the way of the future," said Karen Peterson, manager of business process planning at the Lucent unit in Mesquite, Texas.

And Lucent plans to stick with I2 for planning software because it is "so far ahead of SAP" on functionality, she added.
