Gene - Re: " And considering Intel maintained it's ASP in the quarter, (and Intel indicated Xeon's weren't a large factor in Q3, nor was PPro), is it fair to assume that PII also greatly exceeded pectations? "

During the COnference Call, Paul Otellini repeated almost exactly what I have been stating for four months - the Celeron is replacing the Pentium MMX sales.

Thus, Pentium MMX's - which have been selling for $70 - $125 are being replaced by Celerons selling from $80+ to $200.

The net result is to maintain or increase ASPs - offsetting the slightly higher silicon/packaging costs of the Celeron vis-a-vis the Pentium MMX.

And Pentium II sales have insured that the ASPs averaged out to a wash, with Celeron included.

And yes, XEON sales represent future UPSIDE potential as Intel ramps up the modified XEON designs and volumes.

Re: " I think Intel alone must have shipped at least 20 Million CPU's in the quarter."

My guess is >22 million CPUs.
