I wonder if profits as defined by Samsung equates to operating
income and does not include interest expense ? I believe the
Samsung Group has 8 or 9 billion dollars in debt. The interest
expense on this debt much of which is dollar demoninated must be
a very large number. It is interesting that Samsung Electronics
is in the domestic bond market borrowing the equivalent of $ 360
million monthly. It doesn't sound like Samsung's cash flow is
particularly good and it sure sounds like interest expense will
only be going higher in the future.

Joe,

Now stop that!!!

Don't you realize you are trying to spoonfeed logic to the "forever bears". For the life of me I can not comprehend how the "forever bears" can put any Korean Semiconductor on a pedestal and at the same time trash Micron and kick it into the gutter.

The Koreans are in such deep sh*t financially and their future is looking very bleak for DRAMs... b/c of their inability to adequately fund upgrades for their fabs. To get ahead of the curve they must inject capital dollars every year or fall behind...and we are talking billions every year. With their currency cut in half and the IMF watching them closely, and their government putting the squeeze on the Chaebols how can they maintain a lead or get in the lead( depending on what position in the race you believe they are).

It was only a month or two ago the "forever bears" were bragging about Hyundai and all the money and technology advances they have...yeah right!...I seriously doubt whether the DRAM portion of Hyundai will even be around after next year.

It is really getting silly on this thread.:-)

Good Luck Trading

DavidG

One difference between spin and truth is how log it holds up. Maybe a little insight on why things don't sound like the truth...

--Though Samsung had a price premium on sales of 64-
megabyte DRAMs after mass-producing them quicker than rivals,
it is probably being hit now by tumbling prices along with
other manufacturers, Jung said.

''Samsung sold a lot of 64 DRAMs when the price was
around $20 dollars, boosting their average sale price for the
chips, but now the price is around $10, and they have little
room to cut costs.''
