Gary,

I've resisted saying this so far but at the risk of lighting your "Fuse"

Have you ever worked outside of the US twelve mile limit?

From my position, (working within a European Service provider, so I'm obviously underqualified to comment in your eyes) the Ascend/Alcatel relationship has obvious benefits. I get to deal with someone who has the experience and appropriate attitude to deal with Carriers namely Alcatel, who are offering solutions based on innovative technology (the Ascend bit) who can provide sufficient bodies to screw it all together for me. When I talk to other customers (its an incestuous world in telco land) they also see the benefits of the Alcatel Global presence, fronting the relatively smaller Ascend (nimble as a result with short time to market)

On the other side of the coin, I'm sick and tired of pushy, arrogant, Know-All Cisco sales people darkening my door trying to TELL me how to build my network with re-heated products like the IGX8450. The only purpose they serve is provide the occasional free lunch. I understand that as a Cisco employee, you perhaps see the world through the company issue rose tinted spectacles, and share Mr Chambers view that he will play an important part changing the way our planet looks like our dear friend Bill Gates. But please spare us the Corporate propaganda on this Thread.

Bill

A satisfied Alcatel/Ascend Customer
