Congressman Traficant "Beamed-Up" WASHINGTON DC - Congressman James Traficant Jr. (D-OH), who is famous for his blistering "one-minute speeches", today vanished in burst of spectral energy from the floor of the House of Representatives. He was railing against America's failing moral standards when he said, "America now has a new moral standard: Don't ask, don't tell. What's next Mr. Speaker? Can't ask, won't tell? Beam me up!" It just so happened that a passing Federation Starship was monitoring communications on Earth and heard Traficant's speech. They locked onto Traficant's signature and 'beamed him up'. Meanwhile on the floor of the House of Representatives all hell broke loose as people scrambled to find out what had happened to the Congressman. An ugly hairpiece marked the spot where Traficant had stood just moments earlier. Confusion and fear began to set in as people realized that he had really been 'beamed-up'. Aboard the passing Federation Starship the technician running the transporter room quickly realized his mistake. In a matter of seconds he punched in the coordinates and safely beamed Traficant back to the House of Representatives. As Traficant began to reappear people stood back in awe. As soon as he had completely materialized he calmly picked up his toupee, gathered his papers and ended his speech by saying, "Mr. Speaker, I yield back the balance of my time."
