I do &reg by typing "& reg", without the space. However, here is a whole list of symbols: #reply-3001472, executed by typing "& #" (without the space) and the corresponding number. I don't know the difference between &#174 and &#153 (registered trademark and trademark?). I guess &#169 refers more to intellectual property, like a book, more than a slogan.
