Not sure I understand the either/or of your question, nor hedging very thoroughly.
But let's say they were hedged at 400, and unwound the hedge at 300 - then the amount they would pocket on unwinding would be 100 minus spreads and commissions and fees, etc.
I really don't understand your option b) - I think you either sell at spot or sell ahead for delivery in 2000 or whatever - but then what I don't know about hedging would fill volumes -g-
As I read the release, they unwound all hedges and cleared 7.7milCdn$, and now are completely unhedged. As Curran said this morning, they bet the company on the PoG - well, it was pretty much on the table already, imho. This way they'll gain from a gold rise, and a new gold bottom will turn them teaters a little faster than before.

Ed - if you click on the thread header of any stock thread in the Resource or Canadian sections of SI, you'll find a link to 'Carlson Online' - click on it to find company websites and the last few releases. From any C.O. link you can search for any other Canadian company. Very handy - courtesy of David Carlson, who posts on these threads.

Robert - I'm still watching Steppe .... do you have any hunches about the Standard Bank deal? ....... cheers ....... marcos
