It is the thin trading as you have identified that creates the large spread. Market makers for small stocks need to eat too.

I have found that the large spread in many stocks is caused by few market makers, and the guidelines of the individual MM's. The light volume also helps. The wide spreads aren't necessarily bad if you are on the right side of the trade. Stocks like this tend to be much more volatile than most.

I really like NetBank and am going hold most of my shares long term, but I do trade it back and forth as a hobby. I figure when earnings come out that this baby is going to move in a major way, the right way I hope. I know that their new accounts are skyrocketing, but it may take awhile for them to pay down start-up costs, and for new system hardware to handle the load of new business. This stock reminds me of AOL in it's early days. When everyone caught on to how much better AOL was, compared to say, CompuServe (which charged you a surcharge for almost everything) the stock went to the moon. I think lot's of satisfied clients like myself could help propel this company skyward. Their new name alone helps the company recognition. When the other financial stocks start to recover, I think NetB@nk will really fly high again. Good luck to us on Monday.
