Darrell, I agree with the points you made, but don't think they address the issue. If you are correct in your conjecture that component prices for Dell have not firmed or increased, then that's great for Dell and is a source of relief. Is this what you are saying?

Arguing about the the degree of the increase is really beside the point. Any increase, whether due to components or labor is not good. It may not be all that bad (as you believe), but it is definitely not good. This has been an ongoing argument that I've had with Jim Patterson, who believed that decreasing costs were bad for Dell.

This discussion reminds me of the story about George Bernard Shaw. Seems he approached an ingenue at a party and asked her to bed him for 10,000 pounds. She readily agreed. Then Shaw lowered his price to 10 shillings. "What do you think I am?" she replied indignantly. Shaw responded: "Madam, what you are has already been established. All that remains is the price."
