Image Entertainment Releases Its 200th Exclusive DVD Title

Milestone Title is the THX Certified Special Edition of BULL DURHAM

CHATSWORTH, Calif., Oct. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Image Entertainment, Inc. (Nasdaq: DISK - news), the largest independent licensee and distributor of optical disc programming in North America, today announced that it has shipped its 200th exclusive DVD title, the THX-certified Special Edition of Bull Durham.

Martin W. Greenwald, Image's President and CEO, stated ''The release of our 200th exclusive DVD title demonstrates the Company's ability to secure a high volume of programming as well as illustrates our commitment to the expansion of the DVD format. From the release of Image's first DVD title in June 1997, it has taken us seventeen months to build a catalogue of 200 exclusive titles. These 200 DVD titles represent approximately 10% of the estimated 1800 to 2000 titles currently in domestic release.''

The Company plans to release an additional 400 titles in calendar year 1999 ranging from major motion pictures to blockbuster music programming and special interest titles. If achieved, the Company's market share would represent more than 15% of the estimated 3500 titles forecast to be in distribution by the end of next year. Image will continue to expand its title base to take advantage of the growth in DVD software, forecast to be a $6 billion retail market by 2003. Our goal is to be the most prolific independent distributor in the DVD software industry,'' continued Greenwald.

Bull Durham stars Kevin Costner, Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon in the story of a North Carolina minor league baseball team. Director Ron Shelton lends an audio commentary to the release and the DVD's widescreen transfer has been enhanced for 16 X 9 televisions.

Image Entertainment ranks among the top eight producers of DVD software in North America, with its number of titles surpassing most all of the major Hollywood studios.

Image Entertainment, Inc. is the largest licensee and distributor of laserdiscs in North America, with the most extensive library of titles in the industry. The Company also has exclusive DVD license and distribution agreements with a number of program suppliers. Additionally, Image has exclusive distribution agreements for multi-channel DTS-encoded software on laserdisc and audio compact disc. Some of Image's exclusive laserdisc program suppliers include Disney's Buena Vista Home Video, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment, Warner Home Video, MGM Home Entertainment, New Line Home Video, Orion Home Video, The Criterion Collection, Playboy Home Video and Central Park Media.
