you may be correct Michelle relative to the US. was specifically referring to Asia. from all the reports i've seen, y2K purchases of personal pcs have been an insignificant factor going forward. pc growth has been much more internet dependent, general upgrade, new purchasers dependent than y2k based. NT5 should prompt, according to Dell, a much more significant push toward replacement next year, not y2K.

this HP CEO is clearly getting beat up in the trenches and he's looking for an angle as they continue to loose market share.

Michelle- Couldn't we see an increase of hardware buys in 2nd half of '99 (due to Y2K) by small (and a few medium-size) businesses, individuals and large foreign companies that have neglected the problem until now, and will panic buy..Wouldnt this be an offset (of some magnitude?)

(BTW-I agree that most large, mostly U.S. multinationals will have addressed the problem by July 99..so hardware purchases solely because of Y2K should decrease by those...)

Interested in your thoughts...
