>>>Are any of you "longs" making money this year?
some of us are .....
this is a "co-operative portfolio"

bottom line is not very good .... but I must admit ... it is better than my mutual fund has done with my money <bzg>

Subject 11272

are you still watching the oils ... still not tempted?
I'm not ... either ... the $OSX looks like the gold chart ... will be a while before they are playable again.

If you have a stock you want to enter in the Z portfolio ... we welcome new ideas.
Just make sure the funds are available ....
If it doesn't go up right away ... talk about it ... ask questions.

If it goes up right away ... you'll be a hero :o)
Rules apply ...
the buy/sell must be real time .... we don't wait till it goes up a tad ... then post ... most on SI do that ... it is unethical.

I have bot and sold some of the same securities as others here ... due to those timely posts ..... useless information IMO .... I have made money off these trades and I've lost too :o(

After all, what good is an entry post half an hour or even 10 minutes, after the fact? useless information IMO..... all that does is feeds hungry ego's

we don't bullshit around .. we give real entry's when they execute.

Sometimes we give stocks to watch, and reasons for entry ... that is preferred. But sometimes we just post the purchase.

also ... the majority feel a stop should be mandated. Some may post a stop out price, yet hold their own without a stop. Usually a stupid move, which I admit am trying to overcome myself.

Some people have bought stocks ... they go down ... we never hear from them again. That helps no one, and makes one of us here do the dirty work of posting a stock sale/loss that the buyer should have posted.

This is an open thread, all are welcome.

The major players/posters have all known each other for a couple years and have all met each other.

This is a learning portfolio.

What I have learned, but have a hard time mastering ... is the STOP LOSS .... I learned the Zportfolio has lost less than me, and has free money to trade with, when a stock is sold quickly for a small loss, rather than using the "hope" word.

ps... the X-files movie was excellent :o)

ps.s. to Larry SET A STOP on CD .... then you probably won't need it, and CD will go to the moon.

psss. remember all ... tax loss selling till the end of the year ... stocks going down usually keep going down, unless fundamentals change that trend.

psss. Ron re: FOCUS ... damn F was on my screen all day .... while I sat frozen waiting for the grand dive.
/Zsue shakes her head in disgust

pssss. sorry to be a book

Sue

I can't find a small cap that will go up!

this year has not been easy
Jan-April was a gift, coined money almost daily
since then it has been a struggle

this is not a market to buy and hold in for more than a few days at a time
and 1997 has been a bad 5 years for small caps

my only advice is to keep trying, play small, keep big cash balances, stay off margin overnight, get to know say 10-20 stocks inside and out and focus on them and their nuances

and maybe trade more mid to large caps than the little ones
often it is easier to make a buck off of a few hundred shares of a higher priced stock than a 1000 of a smaller one

and like Sue said, be careful believing what your read on the net;
some give the impression that they are making big returns on every trade, or have a "system", or KNOW that a stock is going to fly
stop reading those people

there is nothing easy about this game/war
no sacred cows
but there is decent money to be made if you find a method that works for you and stay with it, consistently

and by discarding any method that has not worked or has stopped working

best of luck
