Well, well, well, looks as though all the discussions are off and QUALCOMM will be left with nothing but some cdmaOne to be going on with.

According to L M Ericsson [the post you published]:

"Despite a thorough investigation, Ericsson has found
no reason to believe that ETSI's present WCDMA
standard would infringe upon any valid IPRs claimed
by this company." ["...this company" meaning QUALCOMM -Ed.]

At least it's nice to know that QUALCOMM can forget about participating in the 3G system promulgated and invented circa 1989 according L M Ericsson, to be based on CDMA for multimedia mobile. QUALCOMM can fully concentrate on seeing whether they can get few more cdmaOne customers before the all singing and dancing, all L M Ericsson adaptive array antennae based CDMA floods the market with no technology invented by QUALCOMM.

L M Ericsson says there is NO intellectual property they need. Not only that, they invented most of it. And not only that, QUALCOMM can't even use cdma2000.

Is this Sven-Christer Nilsson some kind of fantasy megalomaniac or what?

Why on earth have they been bothering to negotiate at all with QUALCOMM? They should have just gone ahead and produced this stuff which in mid 1996 their agent Bill Frezza was still saying wouldn't work etc etc.. blah blah blah. L M Ericsson themselves had said it was hopeless too. Now we see that it was a cunning ploy by these genius Swedes to act as a smokescreen while they perfected their 3G-W-CDMA-SETI-VW to spring on the world a couple of years later.

Bring on the handsets, let's check them out.

What a joke L M Ericsson is.
