Ref:CNBC's explanation on the sell off.

stock bull:

I think it was Michelle who said in a previous post that if companies wait till 2nd half of 1999 to fix the Y2K problems they would be in for a shock as it could take over six months to fix these things depending on how many codes they would have to fix, this is more so if the company is of considerable size.

According to MD Dell is already seeing a pick up in orders from small and medium size companies on account of Y2K,they are replacing the old equipment with new ones to tackle the Y2K problem and he continued to say that large corporation have also started replacing some of their old systems being replaced and he thinks this tendency would continue as we approach 2000. Logic would have it that anybody seriously thinking to fix this problem would have already started working on it by now as here in the U.S and I am sure many others in Europe and other countries also would have done the same.

And lastly I read an article (don't recall exactly where) the other day where they said a few companies would just try and fix the most critical part of Y2K before Dec.31 1999 and wait until after 2000 to fix some of the less critical portions such as reports generation etc since they have started on it late and won't be able to finish all of it on time.I will try to find it if successful I will post it to you.

re <<The first said that IT managers would cut spending for equipment (pc's, servers, etc.) during the second half of 1999 as they start heavy spending to fix the Y2K problems>>

Which particular talking heads, (it could be argued I've got the wrong anatomical feature here), made this
, (likely self-serving), prediction?

Gee I wonder what they'll spend their money on if the fix is to update the pc's?

Can't tell you how many pc's we are telling our customers to replace due to Y2K issues. Most access control systems in office buildings use pc's. Many of them are old pc's running ancient versions of dos. These will all have to be replaced.

Best Regards,
