margin account....vs a cash account.

I saw one person post that options had to be bought on margin where as Waterhouse does not allow options on margin.

Lee, maybe the correct term is options must be purchased in an account with the appropriate option agreement (which must be a margin account) but options themselves are not marginable. It gets tricky. I'am still trying to understand all the account balance categories. Glad to hear you are having a good experience with Brown. I'am currently with Waterhouse and reasonably happy but might get an additional account with Brown. I'am looking for a source to compare option commissions at various discount brokers and things like interest on short sale proceeds. Most of the current comparisons between brokers are too simplistic.
