Depends on what you mean by the words 'without provocation'.

Okay, JLA. By "without provocation", I mean insulting somebody who has not insulted you first. Or "starting it", as kids would say. If someone, for example, expresses ideas I vehemently disagree with, I would not consider that sufficient provocation to reply with a personal insult.

Here is an example of a classic unprovoked attack.

1) LesX starts a thread called the "Sanity Check." This is his opening post -- which, of course, is addressed to the world in general, not to any individual in particular.

Started By: LesX
Date: Aug 18 1998 12:32AM ET

The purpose of this thread is to make a SANITY CHECK on the Clinton-Lewinsky affair. It is to discuss the opportunity costs that our world and nation expends by devoting its productive and emotional energies to a sex scandal.

Five questions:

How does Canada, France, Russia, Japan, India, UK, Brazil, Mexico and Iraq perceive
us now that we've obsessed over this matter for 7 months?

Are we a RICHER or a POORER nation because of it?

Would we be a RICHER or a POORER nation if we now moved on to the REALLY BIG PROBLEMS facing our world?

In TWENTY YEARS will we regret that we didn't use our time more productively?

Has it driven our nation apart? And is this a good thing?

Once again this is for the sake of a SANITY CHECK.

2) Zoltan arrives on the thread, goes right for the jugular in responding to opening post above:

Re: Sanity check - the jury's still out.

Intelligence check - you fail.

3) Poor old LesX takes the bait (Oooo..mentioning Mensa was a tactical mistake)...

As a member of Mensa I hardly fail the intelligence test.

As a matter of compassion you fail the humanity test.

It is easy to parrot the pundits as you have done so well with your links. I know its hard to think for yourself in this age of information overload and conformity but it is useful if you try.

Visionary thinking reveals that this persecution will have nothing but a negative result on the morale of this country.

4) Zoltan moves in for the kill. ("Substantive" portion of post omitted.)

Mensa? You do hide it well. In any event, only the intellectually insecure and suspect bother with that. The verdict is in: You really are clueless.

You have managed to define yourself as someone w/o ethics or any intelligent perspective re: Clinton. Your spew speaks about morale yet only reinforces how utterly confused you are....

Visionary thinking? If you weren't so obviously blind you would be known mainly for being unbalanced. Polls have shown that Clinton is supported mainly by the most uninformed and least educated in society. You are obviously no exception.

And so forth and so on and so forth and so on ad infinitum...
