About boot-up times-

I just leave my home machine on all the time. It's hooked up to an UPS and I just switch off the monitor. As I understand it, the power used with the monitor off is pretty small. Another advantage is that I don't have to worry about my kids not going through the shut-down properly on OS/2 or Win95, the two OS's I have on it. I've just put LINUX on it, too, but am somewhat leery about giving root privileges to my kids.

Randy, Re: "When we finally get to the PC that is truly 'on
now' when you flip the switch, we'll have the boot-up time I'm looking for."

Why don't you have your PC on all the time on a solar energy device yet? (I peaked at your profile).
