I stand corrected, however the source of the post (Qualcomm) might be a tad bit biased. But, nevertheless, I will withdraw that comment that TDMA/GSM is cheaper for a wireless provider (as a system) to implement.

One point, the article says that
CDMA macrocell overlay is 1/3 the cost of GSM microcell overlay in a 5-year typical deployment. Dramatically fewer cell sites for the CDMA deployment result in annual operating cost savings.

I interpret the statement as: "CDMA is cheaper becuase you will need less cells which, in turn, will cost less to maintain."

Michael, is there anything about initial costs?
