No I don't know, however a good Japanese typist can type just as fast as an English language touch typist. Remember how strange the standard keyboard arrangement seemed when you first saw it? It took a bit of work to be able to use it quickly - same for the Japanese.

Re: "pen input"

This type of system exists in Japan as well, but is not popular. The Japanese seem to be satisfied with the system I've described. This may be because of the limited number of Japanese sounds and the accuracy that they can be input using an English language keyboard (every sound in the Japanese language can be represented clearly with English letters).
