Oh, and by the way...

I hate to say it but I think we must brace ourselves for the realization that 3dfx may have lost some OEM deals that they originally had. The hour is late and the lack of info is...consipicuous. Ever since Gateway's PR for the TNT my hope is slowly fading. The fact that Andy K. left also gave me a somewhat sinking feeling. What was "a few weeks" last quarter never materialized at all. At this stage in the game 3dfx is more likely to say that some deals were dropped rather than announce any new OEM deals tomorrow.

Rather than speculate I will see what the company has to say. I have held since just after the IPO and the current price is dirt cheap (little downside) but I won't wait around as more deadlines get pushed back and the competition comes out in full force. Nvidia has shot their wad with TNT but the new Rendition and 3dlabs chips look to clean house on even an updated Banshee2.

I envy ATI because they can make a buck in spite of the fact they price their products competitively and are lame in the technology department. Imagine if they actually came out with a good product. 3dfx's problems are just the opposite. They can't make money even with the best technology. I will grant that 3dfx believes they need to have high expenses, but we should be looking at 3dfx to justify those expenses with real progress into new markets.

If I feel the same as I do now about the company's future after tomorrow I will sell every last share. It actually saddens me to say that. I feel like a coach who sees the potential of a young hotshot quarterback. This quarterback keeps missing practice and not pushing the edge because he thinks he's the best. What he doesn't seem to realize is that he's not in the minors anymore. Well I refuse to let this kid make a monkey out of me anymore.

I'll drink a toast tomorrow that we avoid a QB sack.

Pat

All the conference call numbers are reserved today. This is a deviation from the past. Either they are afraid of some shareholders cutting in uninvited, or they are taking cost cutting to ridiculous levels. The conference call can be replayed after 7pm PT at 1-800-633-8284 Res. #1596411. It will be available for 48 hours, so please don't jam the phone lines at 7 o'clock.
