Schwab trader called it trading inside the box. Basically it hedges you aginst loss one way or the other. The trick is to decide which way is going to work out at some point and either sell the long or buy the short. Hope this helps. BTW he also said that one needs special permission from Schwab to do this as it is very tricky and can get you in trouble fast. ASK the hedge fund managers.
