Paul, how about:
Although Intel has a big lead on AMD, that lead isn't as significant as it was in 1995 because there is more of a low end market to which lesser companies can sell. Also INTC's margins are still big enough that it gives other companies a lot of wiggle room when building an infrastructure.

OTOH, you've got rapidly expanding economies of scale, so as long as INTC maintains its edge for the next few years and doesn't let AMD establish a cash hoard they'll have a more significant advantage the next time they have a significant product cycle come through.
Maybe. Like I said, I don't follow INTC. The next 1-2 years should be tough, though.
