Sam,

I would disagree with you regarding the movement of the yen/dollar under our scenario. With respect to Japan, I was not suggesting a Japan armed with nuclear weapons...merely a Japan with a credible conventional defense force paid for by japanese, not american taxpayers. Of course, I would expect Japan to pay us a stipulated amount for providing them with protection under our nuclear umbrella...(sounds kind of like a mafia operation, doesn't it?) These "mutual defense" treaties are a joke. Seriously, what can Japan do for us if the U.S. is "attacked" by a third country? The only credible "mutual defense" treaties we have are with Great Britain and possibly Israel. All others are unilateral treaties. Since I'm on a roll being "politically incorrect" here, let me also mention the small matter of war reparations from Japan...I think it's absolutely fantastic that Jewish survivors and their heirs are going after the Swiss banks and (next) german corporations....It's about time those countries (and banks) were deprived of their ill-gotten fortunes...why should japan be any different?
