MINNEAPOLIS, Oct. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Ancor Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: ANCR), a leading provider of Fibre Channel switches, announced today that Max Davis has joined the company as vice president of manufacturing.

Davis will direct Ancor's manufacturing contractors to ensure the GigWorks(TM) MKII switches are the highest-quality, lowest-cost available. He joins Ancor from Artesyn Technologies, Boca Raton, Fla. (formerly Zytec, Minneapolis, Minn.), where as vice president of manufacturing, he was responsible for worldwide manufacturing strategies, capacity planning and operations in four locations in the U.S. and Mexico. Davis also held executive manufacturing positions with Loredan Biomedical Inc., Outbound Systems Inc., and Thomas Group Inc.

Cal Nelson, Ancor President said, "Max's experience in delivering world-class quality at a controlled cost helps Ancor be the kind of partner leading OEMs demand."

George,

<<<I don't know if I missed the discussion, but I thought the following line was also interesting in the MKII-8 technical specs:
"Each FL_Port can support 1-126 NL_Ports. Each public loop can handle both public and private loop transactions">>>

How could you have missed the discussion?<g> No, we haven't talked about it yet. It is significant. It means private devices(existing legacy devices) and public devices can co-exist in the same loop. It provides a migration path for enterprise computer centers to purchase what they need in the latest and greatest FC capable devices without isolating the old legacy devices. Brocade, Gadzoox , Vixel can't match it in terms of functionalities, latency and most of all, "PRICE" . McData is way off in this arena. Hub makers are wondering their slightly lower price per port without switching capability would sell to the same potential OEMs. Good luck to new FC startups trying to catch up with Ancor. Did I sound too excited. May be I am.
