Bill,

When you consider how many billions were wasted on buses and fuel and litigation cost, they could have built a new school in each neighborhood and had teachers out the wazoo.

And you're absolutely right, instead of giving the inner city students vouchers to attend the school of their choice, they were subjected to leaving for school before light and getting home after dark, spending an average of 2 hours on a bus per day, and of course the parents had the distance problems to deal with too. Extra-curricular activities, child sick at school, etc.

The problems with the inner city schools isn't race, it's economics. St. Louis has essentially driven business away with their tax policies and of course, people tend to live where their jobs are. So BC can stick 100K teachers in St. Louis alone and it's not going to do one bit of good. bp
