RESEARCH ALERT - Compaq Computer upgraded but the stock is down.

CHICAGO, Oct 15 (Reuters) - A.G. Edwards said Thursday it upgraded the rating of Compaq Computer Corp. to buy from accumulate as the long term fundamentals of the manufacturer of desktop and portable computers continue to progress.

Shares of Compaq were trading off 3/16 to 25-5/16.
