"...once the war started and Russia was attacked it defended itself ..."

The war started when Russia and Germany made a pact to divide up Poland between themselves. September 1st, 1939. Look it up. Search with 'Ribbentrop und Molotov'. This is just nonsense - "...However, Russia was only attempting to remain neutral..." - Stalin thought Hitler looked like a good partner. Pretty hard to put an innocent rosey face on that.

Fwiw, I do agree with your statement "that we should not abandon the Russian people" - we can't let them starve, but that doesn't mean we have to fatten the wallets of their gangster component, of which they have at least as many as we do.

And as far as "nor forget their sacrifices" - there were a lot of sacrifices, all over, and there will be a lot more, it is a human condition.

>>>for my outburst as I lost it a bit after being made to look like an apologist for Stalin and his butchery. My point was that we should not abandon the Russian people nor forget their sacrifices.>>

Serge good post! No one would ever accuse you of such a crime...
Now about the facts....Sacrifice of the Russian (Soviets) people (many nationalities-not just Russians) were indeed enormous, virtually impossible to comprehend, as there was not a family without dead or wounded....And that were the history ends and starts again....You can't find a Russian history book that was not re written....The was was fourth for Motherland and Stalin...It is Russian history that human life is nothing and meant to be that way....Many, many died in attempts to take a hill, cross the river or some other ludicrous reason just to give Stalin a present....Many more Russians died than Germans...Prisoners of war that returned home (by British including!) were shot or send to hard labor (A true Russian Patriot could not surrender thus it was a treason and crime to be a prisoner of war...
The true accomplishment of American and British in addition to known
is that they saved Europe (what they could from communist Tirrany-that must not be forgotten.....As for Russians they would suffer
untill some new generation will find a way...When? who knows? Money would be given/waisted not for any other reason but to continue to try to contain the forces, nuclear, refugees and so on inside....not to make a differences...there are not idiots only in GVN/s
