And, in the foreign exchange markets, the dollar got slammed again as soon as the news hit the fibre optic wires. Down against the yen, the deutchmark, the pound, the swiss frank, the eurodollar, not to mention gold.

What is this telling us? That the dollar, with lower interest rates to investors, is cheaper than it was with higher rates. That international money is running away from the dollar because it smells trouble brewing. That behind the rate cut (a surprise to all markets everywhere) is a very worried Fed. Worried about what? More hedge fund collapses, more declines in the stock market because of a looming liquidity crisis, more what?
