I beg to differ. Clear would have been saying we expect a loss of 6~10 million dollars. At worst they would have produced a minor upside surprise. I cannot believe that they did not know this range. Let me tell you how talking to 3Dfx is like pulling teeth: one of the questions I asked them was "when will the follow up to Banshee appear".
Their response: "we can't comment".
I had to ask does this mean that you don't know if you will have a product for the next OEM cycle in March?
The answer, you can assume that we intend to market to the OEMs and will be ready for all the cycles.
I asked, then you are saying that you will have a product?
3Dfx: "Yes".
I asked, how long will it take you to sample the product?
They: about two months.
I asked so what is the bottom line?
3Dfx: "The follow up will be ready in Q1 99 and ship in Q2 '99".

Why the hell could they not say this in the first place? The same goes for everything else they say. When it comes to marketting and talking to investors, this company has sh!t for brain.
