Thanks, Saturn V, for your comments. I don't know how you came up with the conclusions that you have stated in your message, but they do give me a new viewpoint into this whole performance issue.

By the way, a little-known feature of AMD's 3D-Now is its new Prefetch instruction. I don't know how useful this prefetch instruction was in the Super 7 platform, though.

Now the major performance bottleneck is loading the cache from the main memory.

Dram latency is the big problem for everyone. All the fancy architectural stuff means little when the CPU is starved for data.
