cav: That doesn't make sense to me. (that reason).
If the stock is marginable, then people should be able to buy on margin if they want.
If you have the financial resources to cover any margin calls, what do they care if you margin it or not.
They should know whether a person is financially responsible enough to buy on margin, they have the account to look at.

Maybe DLJ is short the stock, and doesn't want to help enable people to break the short position?????

Does that scenario sound plausable?
