George, in defense of Borzou, who is of course perfectly capable of defending himself -- <gg>-- let me point out that Cynics are usually Soured Idealists. It is not that they do not have beliefs and principles; it is just that they despair of seeing them realized. After all, Diogenes, the most famous Cynic of them all, travelled through the world with a lantern, looking for an honest man. It's just that he never found one... jbe P.S. The "God" of the original Cynics was Virtue, which they considered the Highest Good.

Your God is obviously the God of cynicism I prefer to think of myself as a disillusioned romantic. :-) I wish people would argue against points instead of trying to stuff the speaker into some category. I can't believe that's its that hard to differentiate between an empirical description of how things are--how the various power structures operate--and the teleological--how we believe things should operate. Based on how things are and how they operate, I'd rather have a slimy, untrustworthy dupe of the unions, and the legal and entertainment industries than a race-baiting, homophobic, dupe of the Christian right and military contractors. The End. As far as what I believe should be, well, who really cares what my vision of Utopia is? I barely do.
