Other venture capitalists, however, give him equal credit for Kleiner's string of Internet successes. For Excite and Concentric Networks, Khosla threw in seed investments of just $200,000 each, but added a whole lot of work. When he first met with the founders of Excite, he wondered if the search technology would scale. Excite said it couldn't afford a hard drive that would be big enough to test scalability. Khosla called his office and had one delivered. The Scoop: Khosla brought together the heads of 10 newspaper companies in a meeting that resulted in a major online alliance, the New Century Network, which unfortunately is now defunct, an idea that had a moment of glory before the Net moved ahead of it.
