Maybe we're crazy.... I shorted AOL back in early '96 along with NSCP and MACR. AOL took off while NSCP and MACR were good shorts. It's not fun when these rockets soar, but it's fun when they burst. The following shows the problems with internet commerce darlings: "Tim Koogle, Yahoo's CEO, also cited Yahoo's growing e-commerce business, which is being conducted "in very large numbers." The executive noted that expanding operations like e-commerce have diversified the company's revenue stream. "We've got a diverse client base across the world," he said, having added "just under 2,000 merchant and advertising partners just in the last quarter." Of the stepped-up competition from portal upstarts like Walt Disney Co. (DIS) and General Electric's (GE) NBC television network that has worried some Yahoo investors, Koogle said there's plenty of room for all in the World Wide Web universe. "We've always said that the market ... in terms of eyeballs on the one hand and dollars on the other for advertising and e-commerce on the Web" is growing and will continue to grow, Koogle asserted. That growth should make the market "large enough to support a number of global players." Plenty of room he says for a $10 Billion pie?? We'll see how much GE and Disney have to say about sharing the pie! Not to mention CBS, or a host of media companies and other consumer products companies. My guess all of the weak kittens will not be getting any milk soon. gw
