Any comments on the Release today about the design houses? Seems the more people pushing the product the higher the Revs will be. What was the last reported number of design wins for NA?

Scott Bailey,

Yes indeed, big time hype. I feel sorry for him if this guy really believes in that hype. Otherwise, I guess, he is just doing his "job".

Dear Sir or Madam: I have read your post and find it
amazing that you are not aware of opeational
metro-DWDM commercial installations (far beyond
Ciena's suggested tests and aspirations). You should
check the home page of Osicom ("FIBR") who made the
first installations in Switzerland and Spain in the first
quarter of 1998 followed by installations in Texas (Texas
Utilities....the 4th largest telco in Texas) and a large
European national carrier plus a large installation in Atlanta
with a RBOC affiliate. FIBR has over 50 potential clients
testing the metro-DWDM product that is shipping. I am a
fairly substantial investor and am not affiliated with FIBR
otherwise. I agree with your and Dr. Nettles assessment of
the metro market and also point out that Ciena has
consistently promised product and missed 1998 delivery
dates. It is my further understanding that a reason AT & T
and others have avoided Ciena orders has a relationship to
the active nature of their DWDM vs. the passive nature of
FIBR's.
I am trying to determine whether the Ciena product set
generates heat that causes error rate increases over long
usage times of fiber optic cable. I am not a technician and
am not a rumor monger...only an investor trying to keep
up with a high ramp up market so don't interpret any of the
above as negative to Ciena. If you do have information on
Ciena's technology or why they are under a dark cloud in
the marketplace please share it.
