NCTI Introduces Its Full Development and Operating Environment for Personal Java, Embedded Java and Java Card Systems

October 16, 1998 STAMFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE) via
NewsEdge Corporation -- Noise Cancellation
Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: NCTI) today
introduced a full development and operating
environment for Java(TM) systems. The
environment consists of a real-time operating
system, a Java Virtual Machine (JVM) which
is 100% compatible with Java bytecode,
standard Java Class Libraries and a full set of
compilers. The NCT Java development
environment features a Java compiler and
cross-compilers which allow for the
translation of legacy systems from C or C++
programming languages into Java bytecode.
The C++ compiler is 100% compatible with
Microsoft C++ compilers.

"This environment is a true breakthrough
because it is the first of its kind specifically
for developing Java applications," said
Michael J. Parrella, president of NCTI. "The
environment is ideal for developers of smart
cards, speech-driven products for home,
automotive and communications, and digital
communications devices such as hardware
Internet phones. This opens up all
applications that require a price performance
environment smaller than Windows CE."

Mr. Parrella continued, "The market value of
legacy software is estimated to exceed $1
trillion. The legacy roadmap approach allows
companies who have invested tremendous
amounts in their applications to move to the
Java platform in a controlled and prudent
way."

The NCT environment allows for different
levels of development, from small consumer
products to complex systems. Developers
can utilize the environment for static
applications, such as a voice programmable
VCR or for single dynamic applets, such as in
a talking appliance in which language is
customized by geographic region. The
environment is also appropriate for
development of multiple dynamic applets,
such as computer telephony.

On September 9, 1998, NCT announced the
acquisition of Advancel Logic Corp., the
designer of the TurboJ chip family. As a
wholly-owned subsidiary of NCT, Advancel
will be responsible for the continued
development of Java-based technology for
the Company.

NCT is a leading technology developer with
an extensive portfolio of proprietary
algorithms and a wide variety of product
offerings for consumer, commercial and
industrial applications. The Company
specializes in the utilization of sound and
signal waves to reduce noise, improve
signal-to-noise ratio and enhance sound
quality. For more information, refer to the
