Fine, but "earnings" are generally viewed as net income and earnings per share, both of which are up for 3Q98.

If you enjoy going down the earnings sheet and finding creativity in eps reporting, as you obviously do, go over to IBM and check out some of their recent earnings statements, and stock graph while you're at it. Intel's a rank amateur by comparison.
