PacBell was not one of the announced trial carriers so I don't know how to interpret this. I believe Wildfire had previously announced this alliance in some way. Perhaps it is good news in disguise as other carriers will need to step up to the bar and opt in for Portico, which offers more features than Wildfire.

Regarding Oct 28 earnings my two cents sees almost no revenue impact from Portico ("nominal" as Markman previously stated) and significant ramp up costs. Data Rover, no way to judge is there? However I will listen closely to Markman's comments at the time of the release. Who knows just how much hope or earnings resignation forms the basis for the current stock price?

<They saying that PacBell has selected Wildfire as the one they will sell! This is news to me. Has anyone else heard it? >

This is old news. It has not made any short term impact IMHO.

Pacific Bell Mobile Services Signs Contract To Commercially Deploy Wildfire in California and Nevada

PLEASANTON, Calif. (February 23, 1998) - Pacific Bell will announce at today's Cellular Telephone Industry Association Conference in Atlanta that it has entered into a commercial agreement with Wildfire Communications, Inc. to provide a wireless version of Wildfire's voice-activated electronic assistant to its PCS customers in California and Nevada. Pacific Bell plans to introduce Wildfire in major California markets by this summer.

Pacific Bell helped design and develop the wireless version of Wildfire through a trial it conducted in San Diego last year. Wildfire's speech-recognition technology was recently recognized by The New York Times and BusinessWeek as being a convenient, user-friendly service that lets users place and receive calls by simple spoken commands.
