GCTI jumped yesterday to close at almost 20, more than double its low of 9.12 set a short time ago. Their earnings beat the consensus, and the market jumped on GCTI. Contrast that with competitor Aspect Telecommunications (ASPT) which slightly disappointed street expectations and was hammered. This market is unforgiving to even a slight disappointment.

The lesson here for CFO's is to make sure you always guide expectations to be equal to or less than what your company can actually achieve. GCTI's new CEO was formerly their CFO (and before that, CFO at Network Appliance, where Chairman Don Valentine instilled the Cisco way). I suspect McCloskey knows the above rule. I hope he can continue to follow it.
