Just to stimulate some discussion on this issue I point out that if the price of a stock is $x today, the best guess as to where the price will be in a month is pretty close to $x also. Now, if you consider that writing options is really just a way of decreasing the risk of a position, and if you also realize that except for the bid/ask spread and commissions, options is a zero sum game, it should not be a surprise that the vast bulk of options expire worthless, and this does not require any market maker manipulations.

You make some pretty bold assumptions, yet ultimately you fail to make a clear point. What is your point given what Dell-icious has written?
