Your examples might fit very well for the average investor; however, the MM are not average investors. I don't know the details, but I'm quite sure they're the ones selling the majority of the option to the average investor; thus, they have a reason to keep the stock down.

I will ask a friend of mine about this whole Option expiration thing. He should know. I do recall talking to him several months ago concerning this subject, and he told me that MMs do attempt to manipulate the stock. Whether they are successful largely depends on the environment of the day.

Notice once again how conveniently DELL and CPQ are trading slightly below an option expiration price.
