The problem with a computer based system which crosses buyers and sellers (A la Island ECN) would be the lack of liquidity in either a rapidly raising or falling market. MM's provide this liquidity with their deep pockets and willingness to short stock during an uptrend and to buy stock during a downtrend.

Thanks. It does help clarify things. But what happens if they ever get investigated? Nothing, right? Probably this is SOP, so no rules broken, yes?
