Dear Penni,

The second time I read your message about Blue, I clearly saw your pain. I'm so, so sad for you and Dan and the boys.

The body, any body, probably does shrink with no spirit inside.

The only cure I know is to get a kitten... not right away, but when the time is right.

Diane

Penni, it's not blue. Blue is out under the wide open skies of Texas, hunting and enjoying his new-found freedom. He probably just pulled a little mouse out from under some rock and is playing with it right now.

I moved four years ago to an area a little more rural than where I had been. My shy female cat vanished shortly after our arrival and I was sure a hawk plucked her from the fence (she is a climber). I was very sad and heard that the cure was a kitten. So I found a cutie at the SPCA and brought her home. About 2 weeks later (four weeks vanished in all) my then "man" came in to wake me because Greta was at door. A
skinny cat came in ate a bite and headed straight for the closet. She only came out to eat and hiss at the new kitten and back to her closet for a while. She had apparently been locked out of the house and lived under the parking area for a month with little food or water.
So I think a new kitten is in order. It really does help.

Take heart, penni. Mike may well be right. Melinda's cat tale rings true, too. Blue may have gotten his nose out of joint at the feral cats who had the temerity to invade his house and home.

The cat you saw may not have been your cherished Blue. Somehow, I think you would have no doubt whatsoever were it Blue by the side of the road. Again, my thoughts are with you. To lose a pet is devastating beyond human description. Pets are, after all, family. They are fur people. They are kids in snowsuits. I wish you the very best.

Penni, and all, it does upset me that we can't get the things we want back. Back from there. From death.

Not very nice.

I'm not trying, don't want to hog up your death feelings, (sounds silly, but you know what I mean?) but I was writing to a friend about Dozer. I looked at it, something like this::

Dozer was kind of my favorite. He got an incurable disease. It upset us, but he was not doing well. Very miserable, and the bugs were eating him up. The vet and I tried to fix him every way we could, but then took him to the vet after a last night at home, and he and I and Vern put him to sleep.

I miss him.

Dozer was "a greeter". I was just talking with MJ and I remembered that.

He was a good kid.

It's mysterious.

It would be nice if the world turned out later like Jehovah Witness literature pictures and we get to meet out friends again. I felt like he had to be all right, whatever happens to him. Because I just had to feel that way, like it was automatic, because I had no other way to feel.

I guess if we "all met later" it would be crowded.

Anyway, I was glad he was here. That's what I wind up with.
And a wish I could have done more, of course, but I probably couldn't. And I'm not sure I did the right thing.
But that fades away.

But I liked him and wish I had him back.

Oh well, and tough shit. You can't "reach" there.

So make some more friends, I guess. They need us anyway.
It gets better. I would get TWO unwanted kittens, because then they can be friends and play together. But whatever.

Gotta go to Salem and blow my sobby snotty nose first.
