If you found that buy and hold works, why don't you stay with the winning formula? Of course, buy and hold doesn't mean you forget about your holdings. IMO, one must always watch the company's fundamentals. If the fundamentals go "south" its time to take the money and run. Of course, if the fundamentals improve, maybe its time to buy more. Also, one needs to watch the overall market's fundamentals. A bad market can take all stocks down, the good, bad and ugly.

Some investors prefer to use Technical Analysis as compared to Fundamental Analysis. I guess this is a matter of opinion as to which is the best tool. I favor fundamental analysis, but do like to see the charts as well.

I suspect you know all the above...so, maybe it comes down to a matter of discipline.
