Another ATL lurker since July, and ROTI stockholder. My wife and I first visited Tanner's in April ‘98. We both remarked of how good the food was. The Bar-B-Q was great and the side dishes; zucchini squash soufflé, baked beans – everything, were especially good! A popular lunch spot – large take-out. I knew Tanner's was local to ATL and thought it would be a good choice for a “National Franchise” if the food quality could be maintained. It is rumored that the Kenny Rogers method of rotisserie cooking chicken really started with Tanner's in ATL. The décor was rustic – similar to Cracker Barrel, and was not impressive as, IMO, it looked dirty.

Giving it no more thought, I was later driving through Fayetteville, on the Southside of ATL, and observed a “New Tanner's Restaurant” at the front of a large new Shopping Plaza. This restaurant was new, clean and very impressive, and I found the menu to be the same. The manager explained it was a “prototype” and the model for future expansion. Tanner's would expand not from an IPO, but through the acquisition of ROTI etc. That was July 15th, and I immediately bought ROTI stock, which I believe will be a real winner. Tanner's is more of a family restaurant with good food, whereas Applebee's' is more of a “Date/Fern Bar” restaurant. I can see why Mr. Culp became interested in Tanner's, as it is refreshingly different from other places; a reasonably priced, good place to eat, and a favorite place of many. The new restaurant has a clean appearance with a light cream colored, rustic décor with a large dark green TANNER'S sign, and doing a good business.

The last restaurant to catch my interest as Tanner's was in 1970, in Orlando Fla. I went to “Red Lobster”, and on the first visit, wanted to buy stock. General Mills had just purchased the entire 5-restaurant chain and stock was not available. ROTI looks like it will have 30% of this deal, so let's hope this works out well for us. I have no doubt that Tanner's will be able to obtain all of the money they need for rapid expansion, and Mr. Culp and Gallagher, appear to be the best team to pull this off.

Well,

I have good news to report back about Tanners....the food's great!!! The one we went to is in a very congested area...near the Galleria and Cumberland Mall. It was located in a small 2 story strip mall. Inside the restaurant was rustic with a chicken as their mascot....I think his name was cocka doodles...and his girlfriend was betty. There was quite a variety of items on the menu...in addition to rotissiere chicken, they also offered ribs, burgers, hot wings and other things. I got the rotissiere chicken sandwich and my husband got the smothered and covered...quite a tasty and spicy dish.

There was a large refrigerated glass cabinet with a selection of bottled beers so they do serve, but don't think they have any on tap. The atmosphere was pleasant and casual...a family type setting, but I could see quite the potential for Xer's hanging out there.

Walking into the place, you immediately smell food grilling as the kitchen is not walled off from the rest of the restaurant. Upon leaving, I noticed that they sell their own speciality sauces, including honey mustard.

This place gets a good rating and one that we would visit again without hesitation. Might try another location next week.
