someone please boot this over to Yahoo string. Key points from conference call 10/16/98 a call 1.4 hours long with 4 key mgt. team presenting and 18 good questions. Peter Johnson, VP of Finance, did a strong job taking over CFO reins.4 mgt. team members responded aggressively and well to questions. This C.C. and 3rd Q earnings report generated GOOD PRESS and upgrades. Eg. Yahoo-Tellab's soothes, guides '99 EPS to $2.40/share,sees Q4 beating consensus of .58/s by a couple cents.jumps 16% on outlook, reports, best ¼ in co. history.Stock advantage" right place at right time". Sales $423 million(m.)+37% over 3rd 1/4,Titan $234M. +34%,Martis $101M.+29%(with 6 new customers and 143 total),Echo $47M.+154%(Inc. Coherent),cable $7.4m.. 2/3's of business in USA. 1600 engineers in R&D(+89).Net profit 97m.+50%(excluding $13m. cost Cien. and Coh.)Cash and equiv.=$609 Million. $139 M. in inventory, but are well prepared for strong 4th ¼ sales. Book value $6.35/s up 8% from last ¼ of $5.87/s.Total of 194,252,929 shares out. Sales for 9m. $1.1 B.+34% over year ago. Net profit in 9 m. $1.32/s or +42% ( excluding $13m. costs.) vs $.93/s last year. 1998 LOOKS STRONG Mike Birck is doing all that he can to restore confidence and educate us as to outlook. He is not hung up on recession fear , as he feels that is NOT A PART OF HIS PORTION OF TELECOM. EQT. COS. IN THIS INFORMATIONAL AGE. Titan and Martis have robust growth, other products will be taking on a more prominent role. Great benefits to Coherent merger, aggressive expectations and a major growth opportunity. Got $25 m. revenue from customer service area, an area very important to help solve global customer's problems. Ciena fiasco, brought out concerns that Tellab's does not have a future, not true! says Mike. Several new products are in final design stages. The future is attractive. Look for announcements over next several months, that comes from our product strategy. Tellab's is not just a voice co. Tellab's feels that RBOC's will increase orders 10-15% with Tellab's in '99 and MSO,CLEX, interchange carriers will increase orders with Tellab's 30-40% in 1999.These numbers. might be in variance with what trade hears of their spendings, but Tellab's feels very comfortable with these numbers, as they will be concentrating their purchases with technological leaders like Tellab's. 1999 looks pretty good. 4th ¼ has biggest backlog of orders ever and should be a couple cents over consensus of net$.58/s, with $490-500m. gross sales. That's the first installment, I'm going to watch a football game. Next time, more about new products forthcoming and global outlook. I'M PROBABLY A BIGGER BULL THAN EVER,IT'S TOO BAD THE BEARS GOT WASHED OUT OF THE STRING,I ENJOYED COMPARING THEIR LEVELS OF UNDERSTANDING OF TELLAB'S WITH MINE. Sincerely DAVE DICKERSON
