mchip -- that is only true on companies in trouble or sinking due to inside or outside influences. TAVA is meets all that criteria. USUALLY the whisper is higher because analysts and companies do not want beat up for not making the consensus -- the whisper will be closer to expectations. CEOs and CEOs THAT KNOW their company can lead both numbers in the direction they wish --- usually lower so they can blow the numbers expected out of the water and look great! When the whisper is lower than consensus it usually means there is little explainable reason for the bad results and the analysts would rather put the burden on mgmt where it belongs than look like the fools that drove the number down to where it comes out.
