Big Pharma Report: October 17, 1998 Have PFun! BigKNY3 _________________________________________ Big Pharma Review - Big Pharma (+6.1%) followed the Fed led market surge (+6.5%). 12 of the "Healthy 13" showed gains with "Monsanto less" AHP showing the only slippage (-0.6%). JNJ (+9.4%) closed at its all-time high. SBH jumped 13.4% as its CEO announced plans to retire and merger talk rumors re-emerged. biz.yahoo.com -PFE (+5.8%) probably had the most volatile week in its history...swinging up 4 points, down 8 1/2 points, and then up 11 points. Enough to bring out both the bulls and bears from hiding. The primary reason was a confusing 3 Q EPS report that numerically looked bad (-$.06 from the Consensus) but was well-received by the analysts. PFE is currently 19.1% off its all-time high (121.75) as compared to the Dow which is only 9.9% off its all time high (9,338) -YTD, Big Pharma (+29.4%) is growing almost 5 times faster than the Dow ( +6.4%). Every Big Pharma is showing a YTD gain. - In the YTD race, WLA remains #1 (+77.3%), followed by SGP (+57.5%), and a new #3 AMGN (+38.9%). PFE (+32.0%) moved up one spot to #6.
