Eqnx - a serious "value play"? Here's why (I believe)...

-Trading at low PE of 10, most others in group at 16+.
-Trading close to 52 week low of $6.75 (presently $8.375), 52 week high was $18.
-Has been inching up in anticipation of earnings over past two weeks.
-Was hammered down last Q due to a small shortfall from an OEM order slipping from Q2 to Q3.
-$14M in cash, no debt.
-Heavy Institution ownership and insider ownership.
-CEO still holds most of his stock - has sold very little into the market even though stock price has climbed.
-Dgii (Digi International) is closest competitor and is trading at a PE of 16 - Eqnx is ahead of them in management, focus, product and technology.
-A great Q3 is expected, with rumors of another major OEM deal already signed.
-No exposure to Asia, very little to L.A. or Europe
-New products being released which puts them into a new market altogether with much higher average PEs (Remote Access, NT Networking, Terminal Servers, etc)
-Ripe for possible takeover, or logically may expand through acquisitions

Is this what this group might call a value play or market gem?

Jeff your software picks.. Jeff check next weeks newsletter and you will see my choices. Some of yours are there and there are additions from ohter sectors that should provide together with your picks good opportunities this week.

 ADSK AMSY INPR
CBR BOBJY CSIM
SEG CHRZ IFMX
SOFT HWP CGIX
FILE VIAS IMSI
DOCSF INTS HRBC
TSRI THQI GTIS
AKLM UIS VRTY
SYMC NTPA SDRC

ADSK AMSY I owned this and I think it reported
BOBJY reports on 29th.. We're talking her about 3 digit growth
CHRZ reports the 20th.. Most likely to surprise
THQI reports the 23rd.. another good candidate
UIS already reported.

The top 5 made it to my lists as well.

CGIX out October 28th..another good one
SOFT very low volume unfamiliar with that one
INPR earnings out on 21st.
IMSI earnings out October 26 had a bad day on Friday -26%
DOCSF october 23 Careful here it is not expected to have a good quarter
INTS.. another very good one 'A BUY rating was maintained with an

expected long-term growth rate of 25%. The 1998 and 1999
EPS estimates were $0.52 and $0.70. The search for a new CEO has gone on longer than expected and the Asian markets
have slowed growth in the second quarter. However, sales remained solid and the market for embedded systems development
tools appears to be growing rapidly.' This could see a gain on earnings.. I don't have the date.

GTIS.. year after its debut, the original
Deer Hunter is still one of the
nation's top-selling PC games. It
spawned a new genre of popular,
low-priced software, and currently
tops the charts along with two
other hunting titles, Rocky
Mountain Trophy Hunter and
Cabela's Big Game Hunter. The
genre's runaway popularity has
perplexed traditional gaming fans, who crave fast action and
state-of-the-art graphics.

HRBC.. october 23... good chance here as well.. its estimates have been revised downwards and it's been called a strong buy- Janney Montgomery Scott on 12-Aug-98

SDRC on my database as well October 20 reporting. I like it and it could have a good spring.. the only problem Jeff I have is that some of these are extremely low priced and the dates they report are so important for other companies that can give more assured profits. The top five are on my earnings plays list and by Sunday I'll be adding a few more that came up.

SYMC.. pretty good one

AKLM>.. here Jeff you have a winner; Earnings were upgraded by 1 cent last week, a good sign.. consensus analsyt estimate up down
2.25, 2.07, 1.93 1.75, (the lower the number is to 1 closer is to strong buy)''

VRTY... one of my favorite. This one we are talking bout 3 figure growht

From your list I like CHRZ, VRTY, AKLM, BOBJY,INTS

VRTS Viasoft Posts $0.37 1Q Loss After Charges vs. $0.20
EPS

Just give some others like MACR, HNCS, a chance as well.. a company like MMWW ranks #1 in the computer services sector out of 115..

Jeff, SOFT reported on Sept 28 - Softech Inc. Posts 1Q EPS $0.10 vs. $0.07; Revs. Up 106%. Low volume but loyal following. Needs a few good news releases so it can attract more interest. Great choice though long term.
