Scumbria,

Slot A is brand new, and so if the 21264 which is where the bus comes from.. therefore considering Alpha's aren't yet available, it would seem that the chipsets aren't readily available either... also traditionally dec made the only alpha chipsets. This time, ALI and VIA will be making chipsets as well.

Geeze man, it's just like Merced.. it'll take a couple of months at least!

That's the theory. In practice, however, there are many potential problems which can crop up, mainly between CPU and north bridge in this case. Just because the K7 uses the same bus protocol as Alpha doesn't mean it acts like an Alpha, and there's where you'll find the greatest number of bugs. That's why I had my doubts about a "plug-n-play" compatability between Alpha and K7 from the start.
